NANS Protests in Abuja, Gives Education Minister 48-hour Ultimatum over Sacked VCs

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Thursday protested over the refusal of Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to reinstate the 13 vice chancellors sacked by government without recourse to rules and principles governing university system.

The protesting students who came in about 10 buses to the Federal Secretariat, barricaded the entrance of the Federal Ministry of Education, chanting anti-government songs and carrying placards with inscriptions like, Adamu Must Go, Reinstate Sacked VCs, Stop Abusing University Autonomy, Stop the Interference among others.

Some students of the University of Lagos were forced to sleep out in the open on Tuesday after failing to complete their re-absorption forms. According to the university management, no student was allowed to stay in the residential halls without completing the forms which now include a "hall of residence clearance form" for students who reside on campus.

UNICAL Lecturer Kidnapped With 2 Students

 

CALABAR – HOODLUMS in the wee hours of Tuesday invaded the University of Calabar, UNICAL residential quarters and abducted a lecturer, Dr Stephen Ndifon of the School of Medical Sciences and two other students to an unknown destination.



Sources at the University said the hoodlums numbering seven came in speed boat from the Obufa Esuk River which adjoins the university staff quarters at about 4.00 am in the morning and shot sporadically in all direction to scare away before invading the lecturers house to abduct him and the students.
