Saraki files fresh application to disqualify CCT chair, Umar, from trial

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has filed another application to disqualify Danladi Umar, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, from continuing to preside over his trial.

Ajibola Oluyede, a counsel to Mr. Saraki, who is being tried for alleged false and anticipatory assets declaration, filed the application shortly after the trial resumed on Wednesday morning.

The governing council of the University of Jos has selected Sebastian Maimako to take over from Heyward Mafuyai as vice chancellor of the university.

The selection followed the termination of the tenure of Mr. Mafuyai on April 21.

The Principal Assistant Registrar in charge of Information and Publication of the university, Abdullahi Abdullahi, said in a statement on Friday that the decision was taken at 12th Governing Council meeting of the university.

The management of the University of Ibadan has closed the institution, ordering students to proceed on a long vacation after a protest by students over poor supply of electricity and water in halls of residence.

This has added to the growing number of universities recently closed down due to students’ unrest.

A circular issued by the management of the institution on Tuesday directed students to leave their halls of residence and proceed on a long vacation, while suspending academic activities till further notice.
